SCECSAL 50TH ANNIVERSARY AWARDS

The Special SCECSAL 50th Anniversary Awards were presented to honour individuals who have contributed to SCECSAL over the past five decades (1974–2024).

SCECSAL Presidents Award

The SCECSAL Presidents Award was presented on the 50th anniversary of SCECSAL's founding in recognition of the chairpersons of SCECSAL member associations at the time their association hosted its first SCECSAL conference.

  • 1974 - Mr. Ezekiel Enock Kaungamno [Posthumous], Tanzania Library Association.
  • 1976 - Dr Hudwell Mwacalimba, Zambia Library Association (Now LIAZ).
  • 1978 - Mr. Jafred Shalimba Musisi [Posthumous], Kenya Library Association.
  • 1980 - Mrs ‘Mampaila Martha Lebotsa [Posthumous], Lesotho Library Association.
  • 1982 - Prof. Joseph J. Uta, Malawi Library Association.
  • 1984 - Prof. Stanislas Matienga Made [Posthumous], Zimbabwe Library Association.
  • 1986 - Dr Helen Kay Raseroka, Botswana Library Association.
  • 1988 - Mr. Ben J. K. Kingsley, Swaziland Library Association (now ESWALA).
  • 1990 - Ms. Phenny Birungi, Uganda Library Association (now ULIA).
  • 2000 - Dr Ellen Ndeshi Namhila, Namibia Information Workers Association (now NIWAN).
  • 2002 - Ms. Ellen R. Tise, Library and Information Association of South Africa.

SCECSAL Recognition Award

The SCECSAL Recognition Award was presented on the 50th Anniversary of the founding of SCECSAL in recognition of the individuals who have contributed to SCECSAL.

  • Prof. Stephen M. Mutula - In recognition of his contribution to SCECSAL and knowledge generation in the library, information, and knowledge fields, focusing on the application of ICTs, as well as for his contribution to the development of SCECSAL.
  • Dr John K. Tsebe - In recognition of his leadership in the library and information services field, as well as for his contribution to the development of SCECSAL.
  • Dr Helen Kay Raseroka - In recognition of his leadership in the library and information services field, as well as for her contribution to the development of SCECSAL.
  • Prof. Kingo Mchombu - In recognition of his leadership in LIS, contribution to SCECSAL and knowledge generation in LIS focusing on the role of libraries, information and knowledge in development, as well as for his contribution to the development of SCECSAL.

SCECSAL Hosts Award

The SCECSAL Hosts Award was presented on the 50th anniversary of SCECSAL's founding in recognition of the SCECSAL member associations that have hosted the most SCECSAL conferences as of December 31, 2023.

  • Tanzania Library Association (hosted in 1974, 1992 and 2006).
  • Kenya Library Association (hosted in 1978, 1998 and 2012).
  • Malawi Library Association (hosted in 1982, 1994 and 2014).
  • Uganda Library and Information Association (hosted in 1990, 2004 and 2018).
